You know what really irks me? What really gets deep down into the cockles of my movie lovin’ heart? Movies just aren’t fun anymore. No one is going out and making a flick that is just plain fun. Even things that should be fun are turned into SERIOUS DRAMA. Take comic book flicks. The Dark Knight? A great movie, indeed, but goddamnit I want Batman to throw car batteries at crooks and the Joker to try to trademark a fish that looks like him.  I want Batman to be super detective Bruce Lee I can kick your spine out of your left nostril if I want to, not the kid from Newsies. I could go on, but really, you don’t want to see my e-dick grow fully erect whilst I list all the things Batman should do. Really, it’s quite an unsettling thought for this humble reviewer, and your generally untainted eyes and imaginations. Just go with me on this.

The Dark Knight aside, the films that really suffer, that don’t know how to entertain anymore: Horror flicks. Jesus Christ, when was the last time you had fun at a mainstream horror movie? When was the last time you cheered? Was it when Rob Zombie’s stillborn abortion of fecal garbage was splayed across the screen in Halloween? Or was it during Generic People Get Tortured Lots Then Someone Survives movie # 328924389398493? Or hell, did you get rowdy during Oh Those Japanese Are So Crazy Here’s A Movie Just Like The Ring movie #45484878?  It’s goddamn sad, and I weep for the days of Slaughter High and Chopping Mall.  But this has changed. Enter: Monster from Bikini Beach.

Forum member Anderangle has been impressing us with some Astrophotography lately. This photograph was taken just last night and shows the crescent moon passing near the Pleiades. Check out the much larger version plus a few other photos here.

Let me admit the truth: I am a glutton for punishment. I can’t help it. I see something terrible looking, and, oh god, I just have to witness it. I usually end up either loathing myself for weeks to come after putting myself through such torment or laugh my ass off throughout the whole ridiculous debacle. The second one rarely happens. But when it does, oh lord, is it magical.

I also absolutely adore Godzilla flicks. I mean, it’s giant ass fuck monsters fighting and sometimes humans are there. Also, Jet Jaguar. I know the original was symbolic of nuclear fear and whatnot, but man, the second they got rid of the G-Man alone and started throwin’ in monster after monster for him to fight, it became magical. It became a staple of what you’d watch on a Saturday afternoon as a kid. Aint got nothing to do. School’s over for the week. Throw in a Godzilla flick and just stare wide-eyed as the king of the fucking monsters throws down.

In fact, you could even say I enjoy the other monsters more than Godzilla himself. I mean, you got Mothra, Rodan, Anguruis, King Ghidorah, Mechagodzilla, and so on. Oh yeah, I also love Megalon for being the most retarded looking monster ever. Yes, ever worse than King Caeasar.

That’s why I am reviewing the Rebirth of Mothra trilogy.

The newly announced Nexto OTG ND-2300 Xpress will slurp 1GB of data off a CF card in about 50 seconds. Which is exactly what the digital photographer on the go needs. No word on battery life, but you’ll probably be able to move quite a few Gigs of data before it needs a recharge. Pricing hasn’t been set yet, but expect a ~100GB version to set you back around $500.

Saying that I’m a fan of Frank Miller’s work is something of an understatement.  Gun to my head, I’d probably say he’s my favorite comic writer.   Among my favorites of his work is 300, his take on the battle of Thermopylae.  Miller’s 300, is a short but powerful view of the small Spartan force that held back millions of Persians. 

With Robert Rodriguez’s brilliant Sin City, we saw that Miller’s work could be successfully adapted to the big screen, but could lightning strike twice?  It was the success of Sin City that made 300 possible, and it was even filmed using similar techniques.  But could Director Zack Snyder pull off what Rodriguez pulled off.  The answer, as I’m sure you’ve guessed, is a resounding “yes!”  This is not to say that 300 is perfect, it’s not.  But we’ll get to that later.  First, let’s talk about what does work. I know this always happened at my local arcade!
